About us
Nashville-based. Client-focused.
locus [loh-kuhs] (n.) is Latin for “a place”
Our Design Philosophy
Our design process is built on collaboration and genuine partnership with our clients. We draw inspiration from the project’s environment, crafting unique, thoughtful, and intentional designs that not only stand the test of time but also align seamlessly with our client’s vision.
Meet the Team
We created Locus because we recognized a need for a knowledgeable, and well-connected small-scale consulting and architectural firm that specializes in neighborhood and urban infill projects. While top firms in Nashville offer excellent services and are recognized nationally, they’re often prohibitively expensive for landowners and small-scale developers, and too resource-intensive for the firms themselves. Locus bridges this gap, providing high-quality, efficient, and cost-effective solutions to empower our clients to better showcase their properties and unlock their potential.

James is originally from Cleveland, OH. He received a Bachelor of Science in Architecture at the University of Cincinnati College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning (DAAP), and continued his academic career attending George Mason University in Washington DC where he received his MBA.
James’ architecture career spanned various firms both small and large, notably PGAL in DC and Gresham Smith in Nashville, and covered a variety of asset classes, including office, retail, multifamily residential, and aviation where he led design for the DCA new North Concourse.
His understanding of the development process stems from his 10+ years of experience in the industry, and specifically while leading the development arm of a small, boutique firm in Nashville. He worked on an adaptive reuse project earning ULI’s Award for Excellence in Development, and focused on Hospitality redevelopment projects around middle Tennessee.
James has a strong passion for impacting the built environment, especially in his home community of Nashville. His foundational network of personal and professional relationships in the city give him and his clients confidence in his ability to provide expert quality insight and service.

Originally from the Bay Area in California, Kylie studied Travel Industry Management with an emphasis in Hospitality at the University of Hawaii in Oahu. Post-graduation, she managed various operational departments within Marriott hotels on the island of Kauai and in Nashville.
Her desire to have a greater impact in the hospitality industry led her to pursue an Investments & Asset Management Certificate from Cornell’s Hotel program. She applied this new knowledge combined with previous hotel experience to work as a broker with Marcus & Millichap, advising and assisting hotel owners with acquisitions and dispositions. She then worked to grow 3rd party managed inventory for a venture-backed flex-living company, partnering with owners and developers of Hospitality and Multifamily buildings across the US.
Kylie’s experience in Sales and Business Development is rooted in providing superior and genuine customer service. Her ability to connect with clients and truly listen to their needs is what helps Locus find and maintain strong, lasting client relationships.
